At least 16 people were
injured – some seriously – when the truck driver somehow lost control while
travelling along Old Dutch Road moments before ploughing into several vehicles
on Wednesday.
Sharmilla Siripam, whose
bus was among those ploughed into, says their sympathy lies with the people who
were hurt in the crash.
” I’m empathic to
what happened to these people who were in my vehicle. It was something beyond
my control because my bus was stationary at the robot and this driver of the
truck, if he was awake and proceeded cautiously to the robots this would have
never happened.

“But he was probably
overworked by this truck company or he’s rushing for loads.”
She says their bus, which
is a means to put food on their table, suffered extensive damage.
“This has put me in
a predictment as well as I have a loss of business with the vehicle being off
the road not to mention my driver, who I made sure is okay.
“It’s not a very
good thing but I can’t talk for anyone else because what I’m feeling at the
moment is mixed. I’m dealing with two traumas at the moment, my husband and now
this.”
Police are investigating
a case of reckless and negligent driving.
