A tow truck driver was suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he struck 14 parked vehicles early Saturday, Allentown police said.
Officers were called about 3 a.m. for the first of multiple calls about vehicles struck, first in the 1600 block of Tilghman Street then in the street’s 1200 block, according to a news release from the police department.
The description of the vehicle that hit the parked cars was that of a tow truck towing a car, police said.
Officers located and stopped a tow truck matching the description a short distance away, and the driver fled on foot before being apprehended, according to the release.
The 26-year-old from Allentown faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, DUI/unsafe driving, obstructing administration of law, hit and run to unattended vehicles, driving under suspension, reckless driving and careless driving, the release states.
The driver was taken to the Lehigh County DUI Center for processing.
Additional details on bail and the grading of the charges was not immediately available.
