One Hundred-Year-Old Milwaukee Company Announces Plant Closure, Massive Layoffs
More negative news this week for workers in Wisconsin, with Master Lock announcing there will be layoffs at their Milwaukee Manufacturing plant. Master Lock was founded in Milwaukee in 1921.
Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, an employer with more than 100 full-time workers must provide a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more people at a single site.
Yesterday Master Lock lodged a WARN Act with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development advising all 325 employees working at the Milwaukee plant will be laid off.
“The Master Lock Company is permanently closing its entire Milwaukee Manufacturing facility located at 3600 N 32nd St, Milwaukee, WI, 53210. The plant closure was a business decision and not in any way a reflection on our employees in Milwaukee. In connection with the facility closure, approximately 325 employees will be permanently separated from employment.”
Layoffs at the Milwaukee plant will commence on November 3 and continue until March 29, 2024.
It continues a disappointing week for workers in Wisconsin. Yesterday I reported that Yellow Corp, one of the largest trucking companies in the nation, was laying off 261 workers in Wisconsin after ceasing operations.
