The owner of Rohac’s Junkyard Dogs says crime in the city is out of control and police aren’t doing enough to control it.
Timothy Rohac said he is out on Aurora’s streets every day in his tow truck and sees “lawlessness, drug abuse and crime.” He said solving such problems falls to the mayor and City Council.
“With all due respect, I’m pretty sure there is no plan to take back our city,” Rohac told the council. He said he was in a bank parking lot recently when people began to congregate near his truck. “I said, ‘Get away from my truck’ and they blew crack cocaine in my face.”
Rohac said he reported the crime to the police, but they told him drug arrests are not a priority. He said he believes someone in power has told police, “Just leave these people alone.” He said as a recovering alcoholic and drug addict he knows substance abusers can cause major problems.
Piles of feces behind car wash
Rohac said he stopped at a gas station on Sixth Avenue recently to fill up his truck. He said after spending $50, he asked to use the restroom. He said the gas station workers told him to go behind the car wash. He went behind the car wash and found piles of human feces, he said.
He also complained about all the abandoned vehicles in the city, which he numbered in the thousands. He wondered if the City Council was going to leave them there so homeless people could live in them. “Come on your guys, that’s not a plan.”
He said he’s had guns pulled on him. “They used to say don’t deal with Rohac he’s crazy, and they’d leave me alone.” He said he told police he heard shots fired recently and they didn’t seem too concerned.
The council does not respond to comments made during public invited to be heard but Mayor Mike Coffman and council member Aliso Coombs asked for Rohac’s contact information.
