A truck driver has opened up about pulling in earnings of £60K per year, despite only having to work for six months of it, with all her accommodation, food, and travel completely covered
A glam truck driver says she only needs to work six months of the year to pull in £60K, and this is before factoring in monthly bonuses for sticking with the company.
Ashlea is employed in the mining industry as a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) worker, a type of work whereby employees in remote areas are flown out temporarily to worksites. Her line of work allows her to travel far and wide and live life on her own terms, and it also has some enviable benefits when it comes to pay and time off.
The skilled worker will often open up about life on the road with her 69.9k TikTok followers and has also been refreshingly candid about the impressive salary she pulls in, despite having the opportunity to rest for half of the year.
In one such vid, Ashlea, who lives in Perth, Australia, revealed she gets paid $110,000 (£62,213) for only six months of work, a wage that allows her to chill and do whatever she wants to with the rest of the year.
Ashlea, who goes by the TikTok username @the_salty_pinup, explained: “For my first year as a greenie (a truck driver who is still learning, I would have taken about $94,000 (£53,164) [home] annually. My new rate is about $51.50 (£29.13) an hour, so that’s pretty good.”
She continued: “And the contracting company I’m with pays you a bonus each month if you stay with them – that’s about $2,000 (£1,131).
“Annually, at my $51.50 rate, that would be about $112,000 (£63,347) per annum,” she said. My bonuses could be around $10,000 (£5,656). So around $122,000 (£63,336) for my first year.”
According to Ashlea, who gets her food, accommodation, and flights completely covered, she’ll typically work for 14 days before taking a 14-day long break.
Ashlea’s vid has clocked up more than 39.6K likes and counting, and many of her impressed followers have felt tempted to change careers and follow in her footsteps.
One person commented: “Wow I’m a midwife and we get nowhere near that – I might change.”
Another wrote: “You seriously inspire me. I’ve wanted to work in mining since I was little but didn’t because I thought it was only for men lol was I wrong.”
A third person announced: “Be right back, gonna be a truck driver.”
